Engine and Turbine rooms
Engines and turbines at the moment look like they're attached by effectively toothpicks.
Engines take fuel so it is implied they're internal combustion (jet?) engines, but they're quite small considering this. Turbines don't even use any fuel but obviously have an engine to power the rotor.
They don't come across as believable in their structural connection, or that they could believably house the mechanics to do their job.
Suggestion is to attach these devices to a room module that will provide a structurally believable support as well as house the functional components for these devices.
The rooms could additionally provide slots for upgrades to these devices to improve certain characteristics. Example upgrades could include lightning surge protection, decreased fuel consumption, increased power and increased capacity.

I just build a 2x? catwalk in the center of my ship and build around it. Place catwalks above. Then it is "inside" my ship and not subject to attack. -

FenrisOn one hand, I like the concept of slots for plugging in upgrade modules to engines and turbines.
On the other hand, restricting mounting of engines and turbines to only a full room-sized module might limit airship design.
I am personally inclined to favor the addition of support pillars / I-beams / etc that can be mounted externally to provide a solid looking support for mounted engines and turbines, instead of the catwalk/railing extensions that some players currently make for the same purpose that don't look structurally believable.
I wouldn't be opposed to 'advanced' engineering room modules with slots to internally mount either engines or turbines to shield them from lightning strikes and collisions - the engine room would need exhaust ports in the rearward wall, while the turbine room would need a significant 'bomb bay' exhaust port or vent ducting through the floor. -

DeLindsayI'm down for a NEW item that can be placed "Indoors" that acts as a mount of sorts for Engines and one for Turbines that allows them to be placed inside our Ships. That way, we can still place them normally outside, and those that wish to could place them inside attached to this new mount/bracket. It could even be called a TAB, maybe for Turbine Anchor Bracket or something similar... ;)

ZuleicaI don't see the pylons as flimsy at all. I think the option to place them indoors is fine but, for me, the turbines are huge fans and placing them indoors doesn't make engineering sense, as they are providing a downward thrust from air directed from above. Same with the engines, combustion requires both air and fuel and produces exhaust, so there is a required air intake and the reaction mass has to be exhausted externally. So please do not remove engineering-logical placement choices but I'm fine with options for those that don't care about the engineering logic. Perhaps if you want to provide an internal placement then have ducting for air intake and ducting for exhaust...that exits in a manner that provides directional thrust.

Lem_On_LimeTurbines should require fuel.
Use indoors or out should produce smoke, volume & color depending on fuel type.
Indoor use should produce smoke/fog/toxic effects, could be prevented by vents above & below if you want to provide/code/design those.
An upgraded big indoor engine requiring an air intake vent and unobstructed rear venting, could also be/look cool. (See image from dvidshub.net)
Fire should cause damage to any rooms/objects placed inline of engine flames. -

MystCome on this is a game, the engines and turbines are fine, the only thing I see as a problem is that I can not attach the turbines at all, as I have not found walls yet to attach them too. It states when I try to place them, is that they require a wall to attach too. Not the frame like it use to be. which really is a problem.

overkilguy did you know that you can attach the engine underneath the ship?
i use it and put the fuel tank on top to fuel it!!!
