Suggestion: Greenhouse module
I tried to use the sprinkler system and it did not end well.
A greenhouse module setup with planters and a plumbing system could
be deployed to resolve the watering issue.
All you would have to do is:
-Attach the module to the ship with the ship building tool
-Plant and fertilize seeds.
-Attach a water source (Pipe Water Generator)
to the module and a misting system could be used to keep the plant watered.

I'd love to see dedicated greenhouse rooms get added, because the way the current farming setup uses open air sprinklers in your main cabin *really* bugs me. Your blasting dirty water all over your living space, so every time you walk by your gardens your getting coated in contamination and tracking it around the rest of your ship and if your in the mid-game with just a single room and your bed right next to your farming operation? *shudder* Damp sheets and a soggy mattress at best. The fact that it's wildly inefficient, with most of the water missing the plants, so it can irrigate your floor, is almost an after thought at this point, but it is still a scarce resource, so it should probably be treated with a bit more care.
A dedicated greenhouse room solves all of these issues. It can default to being sealed off from other, non-greenhouse, modules and the floor could have grates to reclaim excess water. Glass walls and humidity control could also be used to justify a growth bonus.
