Automatic open/close doors
It would be great to be able to add an automatic mode to the doors, so they open and close automatically when we approach, and to be able to deactivate it at will.

This one is not for me- With a compact design, I'm always passing close by doors - 'shunk' everytime I did so, would bug the *** out of me..
Then add the likelihood of falling to my death unexpectedly..
I like doors to be completely under my control - at all times -

Rider of DarkTwo toggle states
1) Auto open when one room away, or fully manual
2) Auto close after 5 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, or fully manual. -

adeiltThe world already supports this narratively as the elevators have automatic doors. We could scan them to get the research started on automatic doors.

SJI would make the automatic doors an upgrade from basic doors with the availability of the motion sensor item. I second the On/Off toggle switch like the sprinklers.

Weird Al Yankmadick MergedI found one thing that I really wished I had access to throughout my playthrough was the ability to add a sense of automation to things outside of resource gathering.
I wish I could for instance, place a button by my landing area to open and close the multiple doors all at once.
I'm not sure how hard it is to implement something like this but I think it could offer a lot more customization and opportunity for more gadgets and buildables that can piggyback off that system. -

robdunfI don't know if this idea should be part of this or separate, but I don't want to duplicate an idea so...
Similar to draughtman, I have a personal annoyance with doors. Mine is when trying to interact with something on a single row catwalk section and it opens\closes the door instead of collecting metal or water. Since most of the devices in game have a battery point and a use point. Using the same idea for the door might help.
Have an interaction point to open/close the door as a visible button to the left or right and on the frame. Have a battery point at the top of the door, that lets you add a battery for the automatic feature if you want to. This uses features already available in the game, hopefully making it easier to implement.
