More slots for the hotbar.
5 is not enough. You have to put things on it and remove them to use other type of item way too often. 10 slots would be perfect.

HubertNNNAn interesting idea would be to allow the hotbar to be upgraded using items like they did in fountain of youth.
No toolbelt = 4 slots, Level 1 toolbelt = 6 slots, level 2 toolbelt = 8 slots, etc. -

DeLindsayI don't think 10 slots is needed but I do like HubertNNN's idea. It adds depth to the game and gives us something to work towards.

SolarflareI like HubertNNN's idea too. We definitely need more space for the stuff we need to carry around. Maybe ten slots is a bit much. How about just adding two more, one for food and one for water.

Subdane MergedI would like to see an upgraded toolbelt added to the game.
Commenly, you carry the scanner, knife, portable excavator, crosbow and something to repair with when you are exploring. But now we also have the aircuttter. So we constantly have to go into the inventory and switch items around.
Would be nice if we could find a blueprint for like a toolbelt/harness or something. So we could have more tools ready for use without having to switch them around constantly. -

Marble MergedUsually in survival crafting games, the standard hotbar size is eight slots, five feels too small even though it's not that much fewer than eight. Typically though, eight is the standard.
Inventory management is also a slog. as a new player I'm hating resource management.
I love the game, it has good atmosphere and gameplay, but perhaps stack sizes + your backpack, is just way too small. I'm almost always overloaded, which doesn't feel good. It would be nice to have a row added on both axis of the gird, horizontal, and vertical. Players with still feel the cumbersome need to use storage chests and use up resources, but not nearly as fast as current. On a new save, within an hour I was way too overloaded and getting overwhelmed with resource management. Perhaps a backpack upgrade to research, would work.
Making resource management slightly more... manageable won't threaten the current balance of resources in game, it'll just make it less overwhelming. -

PsychoList may be outdated from pre-coop version but a place to start
Resource collector
Knife
Crossbow
food
water
scanner
repair patch/thrower
build tool
anything needing to be placed in the ship (engines, posters, boxes, beds, etc)
6 is not enough, 8 would be a good number, 10 would be plenty. I do like the idea of an expandable hotbar. A similar concept is in satisfactory where various research unlocks expand how many hand (essentially hotbar like mechanic) slots you have. -

CrystalissIt is important to note that food/water and other consumables have a dedicated key, 'C' by default on PC I believe.
I think things might be fine either way, but from what time I've spent in the early access, I'd be on the side of appreciating another tool slot or two, as I've felt that I was at my limit, and that's even before getting the crossbow. -

AlexaTbh I think as part "survival" game, making choices on what you need is an important aspect of gameplay.
